STORAG ETZEL presented project H2CAST Etzel at event of the Lower Saxony Hydrogen Network
Boris Richter, Commercial Director of STORAG ETZEL presented the R&D hydrogen project "H2CAST Etzel" on 08.06.2022 at the event "Northwest Lower Saxony - Foundation for Supply Security and Transformation" under the TOP "Lower Saxony large-scale projects for energy security and transformation".
Richter emphasised the importance and responsibility of large-volume energy storage in the context of the energy transition and referred to the optimal conditions at the Etzel site in northwest Germany:
"We have over 50 years of experience in cavern construction and operation, including rededication".
The H2CAST Etzel project started in Q1 / 2022. 2 caverns are to be equipped with H2-compatible borehole completion in 2023. The injection of up to 80 tonnes of H2 (1 million Nm³ H2) into the caverns is planned for 2024, with extensive material and safety tests to follow by the end of 2026.
The event was initiated by the Nds Hydrogen Network. H2CAST and other projects in the region, such as those of the "Energy Hub - Port of Wilhelmshaven" initiative, were discussed together afterwards with Lower Saxony's Minister for the Environment, Energy, Building and Climate Protection, MdL Olaf Lies, and project managers.
Here is a look at the programme of the event.
